I would love to see Bernie Sanders compete with Hillary for the nomination. I don’t rule of out Elizabeth Warren, though There is plenty time for either of them to mount a campaign, and at this point I’ve given up on Hillary.

1) “Progressives” are too something to be Democrats, but it sure as hell isn’t liberal
2)”progressives” are NOT the base of the Democratic party; by the very definition of the word base people working to destroy the party cannot possibly be its base
3) Rand Paul has ZERO chance of getting the Republican nod in 2016; which is a shame because he has even less of a chance at beating Hillary- you heard it here first, folks.
May I again push for vote sharing? Find a conservative, you trust- tough, I know- and agree to both vote third party.
Can you imagine if Greens and Libertarians did a registration drive together? They’d both go to the door, within 90 seconds they’d know who should pitch and who goes back to the car.
People don’t vote third party not because they love the two big ones, but because they are afraid that if they don’t vote the lesser evil they are helping the greater. We need third parties growing in tandem on both sides.
I agree with you, but the way to grow third parties is to make legislative changes to the way we hold and fund elections; not to throw away votes on people who have no chance of winning.
Unless and until those changes are made (and I do have faith that with enough hard work and accommodation, those changes can and will be made) third parties will be nothing but spoilers.
My point is that with explicit vote-swapping (I already have a conservative co-worker interested in doing an exchange with me) and with coordinated recruitment efforts by outside parties which are not ideologically aligned but which have a common conflict with the present system, we can grow third parties while minimizing the spoiler effect.
Those legislative changes you mention don’t seem likely to happen when neither of the two major parties would benefit from them.
The system is rigged against third parties. Do what you like, but without the changes I advocate for, supporting third parties is just pissing in the wind. Sorry.

Why do you think I try so hard to bring “progressives” back to reality? Healing the damage caused by their pushing the Democratic party hard right for 40+ years is the necessary first step in getting those changes made.
Remove the influence of “progressives” pushing the party hard right, restore sanity to the Democratic party and suddenly those changes become much, much easier to achieve.
