SF NO

What’s wrong with America is what’s wrong with San Francisco, and vice versa.

    One extra detail.

The technoboom creates far far fewer jobs than a boom usually does. Facebook has something like 5,000 employees. If they were to double in size, they will, probably, have 6,000 employees. The technoboom is also age and gender discriminatory. The IT department where I work is almost exclusively people in their 20s and 30s. And it is exclusively male. The other departments? Men and women of a variety of ages, from 20s to about 50s.

Ted once said at a book signing that all the Afghani people who are still alive (and over the age of about 15) have had all the naivety washed away. The survivors of all the wars and the police actions simply no longer have any blind spots. I mention that because I see a very similar-sounding phenomenon with a subset of the Millennials. Some of them are a lot sharper and a lot more fed up than my generation was. And they aren’t buying any of the bullshit being peddled. And I think they realize, quite clearly, that a lot of the tech “geniuses” are just as bad as the precedent douchebags from decades past.

    • «Some of them are a lot sharper and a lot more fed up than my generation was. And they aren’t buying any of the bullshit being peddled.» Alas, alex_the_tired, that’s what we thought more than four decades ago, when the Vietnamese chased the US out of their country : our generation isn’t going to accept the bullshit any longer and we are going to create a new and better world !…

It didn’t work out that way. I sincerely hope you’re right and that the younger generation you see at your workplace will do a better job of not falling for the bullshit than we – or the Afghans that Ted mentioned, who seem to be no better at seeing through the propaganda than we were earlier – but you will pardon an old cynic if he has his doubts….

  • According to Richard Wolff, Harvard trained economist, during the Eisenhower years, for every dollar a citizen payed in taxes, corporations payed $1.50. Today, corporations are paying 25 cents. Now that is a tax cut, for them. We are still paying the same dollar.

OT or possibly not: Which do Hillary supporters sound more like? Republicans or battered spouses?

  • SF is surely just another cog in the great American fraud: meticulous & impeccable self-promotion but a reality the complete antithesis of what that promotion claims and promises.

MJ smokers have refused to put up with at least one glaring aspect of the American fraud.

  • Presumably, for those who use the stuff, legal pot excuses everything. If Decimus Junius Juvenalis had known about it, he’d certainly have added it to panem et circenses….
