Hope for Jobless College Grads

Half of new college graduates are jobless or unemployed. Are you one of them? If so, don’t whine. There’s hope in the new paradigm of collapse.

Once again, the editorial comment does not match the image, and the image is dated one week into the future.

  • Thanks for the heads up. Fixed now.

Still no word anywhere online as to what causes this glitch.

  • This reminds me so much of when I graduated from Cal in 1990. Back then they called us slackers, blamed us for not being able to get a job at Bear Stearns or whatever. Glad I was not burdened by student loans, lucky that the California public higher ed system was affordable and my parents were able to save money for my college education. I did temp jobs, lucky to meet my future husband who was a gainfully employed computer programmer, went to community college to get a medical records degree and finally got a real job. Flash forward to now. Finding it difficult to find a medical records job, for the first time, career colleges flooding this market with poorly prepared medical records grads, employers want you to have specific skills which must match their needs perfectly. They say fuck on-the-job training. I’m still lucky to be married to that computer program or I would have to move in with my dad at this point. argh! Time to revolt.

  • ugh, too early in the morning, I meant to write computer programmer…thanks Ted for this cartoon!
I would have donated to your Kickstarter campaign but am on a budget.

  • I have to tell you, the Unemployment office in my state is laying off more people than they’re hiring – I’ve been laid off from there twice since Sept 2010.

  • how can student loan collections be a growing part of bank business? obamacare nationalized the student loan program! (since march 2010)

  • Probably the loans made prior to the nationalization.

  • Obama has no magic wand to make everything better all of a sudden – and some people know why…http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/04/30/stephen-king-tax-me-for-f-s-sake.html

If I was living back in the states and had a stake to spend – I’d open a store that only sold goods made in the USA – if Americans want America and jobs back, then they’d better put their money where their mouths are.

  • Ted, some observations: 1) No more police…local municipal budget cuts. Pretty soon all that will be left is NRA backed vigilantes and paramilitaries. 2) Unemployment offices require funding….that will be cut too, along with the unemployment benefits themselves. Actually, to qualify for unemployment you have to have been employed, these students don’t even have a chance to get on that racket.

And you know what’s worse? I’m a college instructor….I teach these poor bastards..and I tell them straight up that there simply aren’t enough well paid jobs. You are ABSOLUTELY spot on about the difference between being underemployed and being underpaid…..nobody is underemployed….fact is, a third of Ancient Rome was enslaved….ONE THIRD! That means professionals, teachers, artisans, etc…all slaves….all property. It doesn’t matter if your job is a skilled job……you can still be nothing more than a means to someone else’s ends.
