Sucker

Deep down, John McCain has got to be feeling relieved to have lost. He gets to go back to the Senate and relax. Obama is screwed, having inherited a country in a state of collapse.

  • from one pessimist to another, I think it will actually become very valuable that all of the hopeless voters cast a vote, and saw a corresponding result. they are only more likely to vote next time.

  • A country in collapse? Only if things go well.

At least, McCain won't have to listen to anymore lipstick jokes!

He offer to sell Alaska back to the Russians. A rouble an acre would be cheap, and the US would get some real money!

So where are these rampaging hordes of doily-chuckers?

  • The following is George W. Bush's quoted comments to Barack Obama after Obama's victory: "I promise to make this a smooth transition. You are about to go on one of the great journeys of life. Congratulations and go enjoy yourself."
Pardon me for perhaps having developed a jaded attitude about the team of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, but I don't believe what I just read. I think Bush really meant, at the end, "Congratulations and go fuck yourself."

Better to rule in Hell, than to serve in Heaven, n'est-ce pas Monsieur Rall?

At least, hopefully, by the end of the first term – Hell will have National Healthcare.

  • well there is a collective sigh of relief from the European heads of state that Obama can at least put a sentence together. Those same heads of state still look to the USA to get the world economy going despite having a larger population to service. It is going to be interesting to see how he starts off.Regards.

  • I have to agree with Douglas: a "state of collapse" is too static. "In the process of collapse," or "In the throes of collapsing" or "Looking for its bottom with both hands" would be more accurate.

For his remaining time in office, the Current Occupant will be busy writing multiple pardons for virtually everyone in his plunderbund of an administration. Too busy, hopefully, to do more than perhaps trash a couple of our few remaining international relationships, or throw just a few more billions to his "base." Too busy, surely, to invade Iran or Syria or Massachusetts.

But he's a fast worker, he's untroubled by considerations of conscience or consequences, and he still has two months. He could do a surprising amount of damage, yet. Keep on him, everyone.
