    Barkhad Abdi should count himself lucky.

    It wasn’t so long ago that black people could only appear in movies playing roles of servants.

    It is an established capitalist tradition that the wealthy are to get more wealthy at the expense of the poor.

    The headline gives me pause. “Huge star broke”? He’s done one movie.

    The cast of Star Trek, Gilligan’s Island and any number of TV shows could overtake this guy in a flat second: residuals ran out on those programs decades ago, but the shows made a fortune in syndication for years and years.

    It’s sad that contracts don’t contain standard clauses entitling performers to a preset share of profits if the movie blows up huge.
