More BS From Obomber

Obama says that the chemical weapons attack allegedly launched by the Syrian government is an attack upon human dignity and, if unpunished, would make a mockery of the international conventions against chemical weapons. I don’t understand. Don’t drone strikes (one killed at least three innocent Pakistanis yeaterday) consist of an attack upon human dignity? What about international conventions against torture, to which the United States is a signatory? Why doesn’t Guantánamo qualify as cause for international military action? He says we have to do something. Wouldn’t diplomacy qualify as more than doing nothing?

However, it is mighty white of him to grant permission to Congress to weigh in, thus getting their hands as dirty as his. The funny thing is, he is willing to wait for them to come back into session in September. Clearly, this is not an imminent threat against United States or Congress’ vacation would have to be cut short.

  • I think he gave it to Congress because he doesn’t want to invade, and he knows they will never vote for it

  • Yup – He talked himself into a corner with his “red line” shit, and this is his way of trying to get out of it. Should be more of talk softly and carry a big stick than talk constantly and don’t do too much. He doesn’t have to worry about re-election, so why doesn’t he stick his neck out a bit to help the people of the USA? He wants to be remembered for being measured and careful – Mr. Fish hit him straight on the mark when he made his MLK vs. Obama “I have a dream” illustration. No angry black man here, just a blurred, measured monotone who just wants to get by and be PC…

  • First, Obumma is not using the “imminent threat” justification but the “we have to kill them to save them” one.

He’s putting it on congress less to adhere to the constitution but rather to avoid later impeachment when the GOP miraculously realizes that “the rebels” are actually an all-star terrorist squad AND Obumma has publicly, unilaterally assisted them.

They won’t impeach him for secretly funding, training and giving media/diplomatic cover for said terrorists because they foresee a day when they retake the presidency and are able to resume that particular, pernicious strategy themselves.

    • True. By the way, the reason 100,000-ish people died in Syria is in large part due to the fact that the US has funneled arms to the armed Syrian opposition.
