RTTV Interview: OWS and Police Abuse of Journalists

Check out another Russia Today interview of me about police brutality against journalists at Occupy Wall Street.

  • I tried once — I don’t remember where — to point out that the significance of “traditional” media was that it was large enough, concentrated enough, and wealthy enough to prevent the police from pulling such stunts as these. One location with 100 reporters (local newspaper with a lawyer on retainer) was far more powerful than 100 locations with one reporter (hyperlocal blogs and, um, some friends who know a lawyer) because each one of those individual bloggers is too easily “dealt with” in not-so-legal ways by those who are able to gimmick the system.

The MSM contributed to its own demise, but we’re seeing the end result of the “news should be free” mindset: a Fourth Estate that cannot protect itself from aggressors. How much longer do you think it will be before the police simply declare that press passes will no longer be accepted. And how will they get that by?

Because “anyone” can be a “citizen-journalist” anyone can claim to be one. That includes terrorists. For security reasons, the police will institute something similar to the no-fly list. No one will tell you why you’re on it, no one will tell you how to fight being listed, no one will be required to answer anything about it at all. When you apply for a press pass, you’ll simply be denied. “For national security reasons, we are unable to provide any details on why you have been denied. If you wish to take it to court, go right ahead. We will drag it out for years, we will make you spend a fortune, and then we’ll win simply by standing up and saying ‘9/11’.”
