My Best Comics List

The Hooded Utilitarian blog has published, along with others, my list of the best comics of all time.

The lists by other artists really make me wonder whether we share the DNA of the same species. I mean, really—In The Shadow of No Towers? That’s one of the worst pieces of shit to have ever appeared in print!

  • You got me on “Weird War”.
The two stories that really creeped me out were the one about the kid who wanted the church re-built. and the one about the female doctor who used dead soldiers body parts to patch up the wounded. Oh, and I highly recommend Luther Arkwright, but you have to read the 3 part version from Proutt/Valkyre to get the cleanest print.

Yes, clearly Spiegelman’s best days are behind him. I have a soft spot for his early seventies stabs at avant garde, but the “Towers” is padded at best.

On the other hand, anyone who reads Junji Ito is all right by me. Greatest horror comics ever. I’m surprised to not see more love for Peter Bagge’s “Bradley” stuff.
